LONG TIME COPPOLA COLLABORATOR HANGS HIS SHINGLE
San Francisco, CA December 30, 2004 - Francis Ford Coppola announced that his long time colleague Kim Aubry will form a new company, ZAP Zoetrope Aubry Productions LLC that will create high value, high quality content primarily for DVDs and related home entertainment. ZAP, a spin-off of American Zoetrope’s DVD lab and wholly owned by Kim Aubry, will provide a creative one-stop boutique for filmmakers and distributors. ZAP will also provide film audio restoration as well as DVD authoring and graphic design services. “I have always wanted to be able to creatively control my films as well as learn about new technologies and see how they could be applied to film,” said Francis Ford Coppola. “We launched the American Zoetrope DVD lab in 1999.
Kim Aubry has been the driving force in the DVD lab since its inception. ZAP will be an independent company but there are a number of American Zoetrope projects on the boards that I will still be involved in during the next year. American Zoetrope’s film production business, will now be based in Los Angeles, and will continue to be headed by Bobby Rock, who has been with American Zoetrope since 2000.
”The American Zoetrope DVD Lab has been responsible for the technical and creative work on many important DVD releases over the past five years, including the signature Francis Coppola titles such as “The Godfather DVD Collection,” “Apocalypse Now” and “The Conversation.” The lab also produced and mastered titles by the Coppola’s next generation, including Roman Coppola’s 2001 film “CQ,” and Sofia Coppola’s “The Virgin Suicides” and most recently, “Lost in Translation.” The facility received high praise for their work on the 2004 Warner Home Video release of George Lucas’ landmark 1970 film “THX 1138” on DVD.
